(LaRuelist Report) June 1st kicks off Pride Month in New Jersey! This year marks the 23rd Annual Pride Celebration in Asbury Park, but it’s the first celebration since same-sex couples could legally marry in New Jersey. And…that’s something to celebrate for sure.
Sponsored by the Bank of America, the long-anticipated 2014 Jersey Pride event will kick off with a parade at Cookman Avenue and Main Street at noon. Events will continue from noon – 7 pm on the grounds located at 5th and Kingsley Avenues.
While in the past the Pride Celebration mostly drew members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community, times have changed. It’s not un usual to bump into scores of straight attendees who either support LGBT issues or simply want to have a great time.
Activities for the day include live entertainment, speeches, tons of great vendors, and opportunities to network throughout the day. One thing that will not be lacking at the Pride Celebration is good food. In addition to tons of food venues on the Pride Celebration grounds, attendees can enjoy the notable fine restaurants In Asbury Park. A special “Family Zone” has been designated for kids fully-equipped with rides and games. One of the signature attractions that Jersey Pride offers is NJ’s largest outdoor display of the Names Project AIDS Memorial Quilt.
