PROVIDENCE — Cheryl Watkins Snead, founder and chief executive officer of Banneker Industries of North Smithfield and a leading advocate for minorities and women in business, died Tuesday, several of her friends said.
Watkins Snead, 59, built Banneker into a multi-million-dollar nationally known supply chain management company serving businesses in the aerospace, defense, manufacturing, retail, government and online industries. Its customer list included Raytheon, the Harris Corp., Johnson Controls, CVS Caremark, BAE Systems and Honeywell.
She was also active in education and recruiting and advising women and minorities looking to get into business.
“She was probably the most positive and optimistic person I ever met,” said Susan Rittscher, president and CEO of the Center for Women and Enterprise. “She was truly an angel on earth.”
