WASHINGTON (AP) — The number of Hispanics in
the United States rose by 1.4 million over a year's time
to 45.5 million as of last July, continuing rapid growth
that could increase their influence.

number of Latinas elected to public office at all levels.
Of the 87 women serving in the 110th Congress, 7 are

Hispanics are among Wal-Mart's most loyal
customers and account for about 14 percent of the
127 million people who shop at the retailer's stores in
