The future of Hollywood is undoubtedly burning brighter than ever.
Along with conversations about diversity and equality on and off the screen, we’ve seen seismic shifts across the industry in the last year alone. Films portraying diverse characters proved to be a cultural force to be reckoned with, showing people that often don’t see themselves portrayed on the big screen that they matter and that their stories have the potential for box office gold. Women and people of color received accolades that were reserved for only their white colleagues for too long, for achievements both behind and in front of the camera. And perhaps most notably, inspired by a gutting investigation into the dealings of Harvey Weinstein, survivors of sexual misconduct split the industry wide open. Men who misused their power time after time finally started to face the consequences of their actions.
Inspired and impacted by this changing climate is a new class of actors — those using their art to challenge Hollywood’s regressive norms. Teen Vogue has chosen to spotlight eight of these performers, each of whom is breaking barriers, advocating for equality, and fighting for better representation.
We’re delighted to present our Young Hollywood class of 2018 — together they are a formidable group of talented actors. Each one of them is also honored with their own digital cover, as they have their own stories and their own experiences to share.
