Lavala “Lala” Moss isn’t just thanking the Birmingham Police Department for protecting and serving.

She’s thanking them for the help in filming her video audition, which went viral and led her to be invited to dance alongside Janet Jackson at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards.

The awards show broadcasted on Sunday 05/20/18 at 7 p.m. CST on NBC, where 52-year-old Jackson will be presented with the Icon Award and make her first televised performance in nine years. Moss, a 26-year-old from the Loveman Village community, danced backup for Jackson along with the star’s “JTribe” dance crew.

In late April, Moss was planning to post an online submission on social media for the “Dance for Janet” auditions. She and her friends were leaving the Redmont Hotel’s rooftop bar late one night when her friends suggested that the setting would be the perfect place to dance.
